KETCHUM
ABSENCES
On the day following an
absence, the student must report to the office for an admit slip. The office
must receive a note or phone call from parent stating the cause and date of the
absence. When a student reaches 9 absences
in any one class, they will be ineligible in that class until an attendance
meeting can be scheduled with the parent or guardian. CHECK ATTENDANCE POLICY.
ATTENDANCE
Oklahoma
Stat Law provides that all eligible children must attend school. Students are allowed a total of eight (8)
absences per semester. Students who are
sick, have doctor's appointments, etc., are considered absent since they are
not in school. In order to receive an
excused absence, an official notification from a medical clinic or doctor must
be turned in to the office. No more than
5 doctor notes will excuse absences per semester. However,
students under a doctor’s care or who have an extended illness will be
considered on an individual basis by the building principal. All assignments missed during an absence, may
be made up. Notification of absences
will be sent home in a timely manner when students are approaching the
violation of the attendance policy. When
the student exceeds 8 absences in any class or all classes without documentation
of medical appointments, the student will receive an F in the classes affected
and parents or guardians will be notified. Parents may ask for individual
consideration of excessive absences by contacting the principal. The principal will schedule an attendance
meeting with the student, parent(s), and student’s teachers after eight (8)
absences. The principal will notify the
participants of the committee decision.
The student or parent may appeal the decision of the Principal to the
Board of Education at its next regular meeting by asking for such hearing to be
placed on the agenda five days prior to the meeting. Any absence, with the exception of absences
due to participation in a school activity will count towards the 8 days. WHEN A STUDENT REACHES THEIR (9TH)
ABSENCE IN ANY CLASS, THEY WILL BECOME INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IMMEDIATELY, NO PROBATION PERIODS, UNTIL AN
ATTENDANCE MEETING IS HELD WITH THE STUDENT’S PARENT AND THE BUILDING
PRINCIPAL.
School
closing due to inclement weather or other reasons will be announced over the
following T.V. stations and the school’s “One Call Now” system will be
activated to deliver your automated phone message.
KJRH - Channel 2 KOTV - Channel 6 KTUL
- Channel 8 Fox 23
Parents are urged to work out a standard procedure for
their child to follow if school closes early and to make sure they thoroughly
understand the plan. Parents are asked
to give the school emergency instructions and phone numbers for this type of
situation.
CELL PHONES AND OTHER WIRELESS COMMUNICATION DEVICES
A student may possess a
wireless communications device (cell phone).
It will be the responsibility of the student to insure that the cell
phone is TURNED OFF,
CHEATING
AND PLAGIARISM

will not be tolerated. Plagiarism will be defined as using another person's
work as your own. This will include but
not be limited to downloading material from the Internet, computer hard drives,
using another person's previously completed work to be turned in for a grade,
etc. Cheating is defined as using
unacceptable means to attain academic success.
Cheating may include, but is not limited to the following: copying tests; obtaining verbal assistance or
looking on another’s work during a test; or using unauthorized test
material. The consequences for cheating
and plagiarism will include:
Loss
of credit on the academic project (term paper, research paper, project, etc.)
and discipline shall be administered at the Principal's discretion.
CLOSED CAMPUS
Students
should not attend school and will be sent home from school if they are
vomiting, have diarrhea, or have a temperature of 100.0. In the event a student becomes ill while at
school, parents will be contacted by the school office and are responsible for
having their child picked up from school.
The student should be symptom free for a 24-hour period before returning
to school. If a teacher or an
administrator becomes aware of a contagious health problem such as head lice,
scabies, ringworms, strep throat, smallpox, chicken pox, hepatitis A, etc., the
parents or legal guardian of the student shall be notified and a conference
with the parents be scheduled. If
efforts to resolve the problem through consultation with the parents are not
successful, the administrator shall consider referring the matter to DHS. A
child with a contagious health problem will not be allowed to attend school OR
other school sponsored activities until a health official has determined that
the child is no longer contagious. Any child who is
determined to be afflicted with head lice or ring worms shall be prohibited
from attending school. If the student is
sent to the office with lice, the student will be removed from the classroom
and parent will be called to pick the student up. After the student has been effectively
treated, the parent must bring the student to the office with a release or
proof that contamination does not still exist.
If the student is free and clear of lice and nits, he or she may return
to class. ALL NITS MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE STUDENT CAN RETURN TO SCHOOL.
CONDUCT AT SCHOOL
ACTIVITIES
Students are not allowed to attend football, basketball, baseball, or
softball games without adult supervision.
Students who are dropped off at the front gate or doors will not be
allowed to enter unattended. Students
should remain seated in the gym and will not be allowed in the commons area
unless they are in line at the concessions stand or using the restroom.
CONDUCT
OFF SCHOOL PREMISES
An attack on the person, family, animals, or
property of school officials has a substantial direct and immediate negative
effect on the discipline and effectiveness of a school. Students should be aware that they could be
disciplined for disruptive or violent acts committed on campus or at school
sponsored activities. School authorities
may discipline pupils for out-of-school conduct having a direct and immediate
effect on the discipline or welfare of the school.

firecrackers, zappers, cap pistols, pagers, rubber bands, etc. Any student who uses or possess a firearm at
school, at any school-sponsored event, or in or upon school property including
school transportation or school-sponsored transportation will be removed from
school for not less than one full calendar year. Ketchum Schools will define firearms

DISCIPLINE
The school’s primary goal is to educate, not discipline. However, when the behavior of an individual
comes in conflict with the rights of others, corrective actions are necessary
for the benefit of the individual and of the school. In considering alternatives for disciplinary
action, the faculty and administration will document the incident and choose a
consequence from the following list:
*Conference with student *Before and/or after school
detention
*Parental conference/advise parents *In-school suspension
*Out of school suspension *Expulsion
*Temporarily remove from class or group *Corporal punishment (swats)
*Permanently remove from class or group *Financial restitution
*Involvement of law enforcement *Referral to other
social agencies
*Loss of school activity such as
assemblies, dances, games, or field trips
DISRESPECT
TO SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND STUDENTS
Profanity, obscene, or vulgar language will
not be tolerated in the classroom, on the school premises, school bus, or
school sponsored events. Open defiance
toward school personnel will not be permitted or tolerated in the classroom, on
the school premises, school bus, or school sponsored events. Insulting and
abusive language will not be tolerated or permitted by the student toward
either staff or other students. A
student will not be allowed to interfere with the teaching-learning process of
the classroom.
DRESS
CODE
Appropriate dress and personal grooming by
each student for all school activities should reflect the high standards of the
school and community. Clothing, hair
color, hairstyles, and visible body piercing that are determined to be a
distraction and disruption to the educational process are not permitted. Dress or grooming which is in any way
disruptive to the operation of the school will not be permitted. Principals, in
conjunction with sponsors, coaches, or other persons in charge of
extracurricular activities, may regulate dress and grooming of students who
participate in a particular activity. Students
who violate provisions of the dress code and who refuse to correct the violation
may be disciplined by removal or exclusion from extracurricular
activities. In extreme cases, students
may be suspended until the violation is corrected.
The following are specifically prohibited:
·
Hats, headbands,
bandanas, sun visors or sunglasses are not allowed inside the building
·
Pants or skirts with
holes, tears, or rips above the knee
·

overlap their skirts or pants when arms are extended above the head
If a student's dress or grooming is objectionable under the above
provisions, the principal shall request the student to make appropriate
corrections. A parent or legal guardian
may be required to bring other clothing for the student. If the student is checked
out to go home to change, it will be an unexcused absence. If the student declines, the principal shall
notify the student's parents or legal guardian and request that person make the
necessary correction. If both the student and parent or legal guardians refuse,
the principal shall take appropriate disciplinary action.
DRUG, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, ALCOHOL POLICY

2. The
Superintendent of Schools will be contacted.
3. Law
enforcement agencies will be notified of any criminal activity & have full
cooperation from school officials.
4. Suspension
up to two (2) semesters.
These
consequences will be imposed independently of court action. However, the consequences may be lessened or
waived if information provided by the student leads to the arrest and
conviction of the person or persons illegally dealing in drugs. In the event a student is suspended from
school for chemical problems, the administration may require evidence that
he/she has completed or is currently undergoing acceptable rehabilitation
treatment before allowing the student to return to school. Pupils shall not
have any reasonable expectations of privacy toward school administrators or
teachers in the contents of a school locker, desk, or other school
property. School administrators may
search a student's personal belongings, such as purses, gym bags, and etc when
there is reasonable cause. School
personnel shall have access to school lockers, desks, and other school property
in order to properly supervise the welfare of pupils. School lockers, desks, and other areas of

who are failing a class one week are on probation and have one week to bring
the grade to passing. Students who fail
any class(es) two weeks in a row are ineligible and cannot participate in any
activities (field trips, dances, assemblies, ballgames, etc.) during that
week. A student will remain ineligible
until all grades in all classes are passing.
Eligibility begins on Sunday and ends the following Saturday. Once a student is on the failing list, the
student remains on the list for the week.

rules and policies as set forth in the Ketchum Extra curricular Policy that
will be distributed by the sponsor of the extra-curricular activity that the
student wishes to participate. No

Field trips
are a reward as well as a learning experience, therefore; students may lose the
privilege of attending such trips if they have received multiple discipline
notices, have incomplete work, have been suspended at anytime during the school
year, have in excess of 8 absences during a semester or any other record of
irresponsibility. To participate in an
activity during or after school hours, a student must be present in classes the
day of the event. Students at school
sponsored off-campus events shall be governed by school district rules and
regulations and are subject to the authority of school district officials. If a student leaves an event early, the child
will be considered checked out of school.
School aged siblings will receive an unexcused absence from their own
class(es) if they attend other grade level field trips. Field trips are
considered to be a privilege.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
Any financial obligations incurred during the school
year must be satisfied before 9 weeks or semester tests are administered or
before school records will be forwarded to another district. These would include: lunch charges, overdue library fines, lost or
damaged textbook or library book, or a lost or damaged school uniform or school
equipment that has been checked out to students.

At 8:10 a.m., students may go to their locker, the
bathroom, office, library, cafeteria, or to a classroom for help. If a student goes into a classroom for
help, he/she must obtain permission from the teacher on hall duty before
entering the classroom or library. The same rules apply during the noon period.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations
must be up-to-date prior to school entry.
It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that each child that enters
school has the proper vaccinations.
Each student will be assigned a
hallway locker for the keeping of books, school supplies, and clothing. Lockers
are to be kept neat at all times.
Students may use locks, but an extra key or combination must be turned
into the office or the lock could be cut.
School officials may make inspections.
No item considered dangerous by the administration may be kept in the
lockers and will be removed if found there.
This includes glass or any other object that may be potentially
dangerous. Oklahoma State Law permits inspection of student lockers, at the
discretion of local school officials.
Students should not expect privacy of the contents of their lockers,
desks, or other school property.
Locker searches
School
officials may inspect and search student's lockers as the need arises, with or
without "reasonable suspicion".
Blanket searches of all lockers are permitted to insure the proper
safety to the student body. When
contraband, drugs, or dangerous weapons are found, they are to be seized by the
school official conducting the locker search in the presence of a witness. Notification of enforcement officers may be
warranted and proper warrants obtained.
Make
up work is expected for all absences.
The student is also responsible for the daily work and the deadlines
that coincide with the make-up work. If
a student is absent, it is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to check with each
teacher upon his/her return regarding work missed. Assignments can be gathered before an absence
if a parent calls by 10:00 a.m. in order to give the office time to collect
work from the teacher(s). This work can
be picked up at 3:00 or later. If a
parent calls after 10:00 a.m., they can pick the work up the next day. A student will have one day to make up work
missed for each day of absence. Any work
turned in late could receive partial credit and any work not made up by the end
of a two-week period will receive a zero.
The librarian posts the
library regulations.

to the school, such as attendance, destruction, or disruption, may be suspended
for as long as one semester. Any student who engages in disruptive behavior in violations of these
policies on or near the last day of the school year, with the obvious intent of
avoiding disciplinary actions, shall at the discretion of the principal, be
suspended for the remainder (if any) of the current school year. The offending student shall not be admitted
to school for the succeeding semester until such time as the principal and the
parents have conferred and resolved the issue regarding the student's
unacceptable behavior.

General searches of
the student body are permitted to insure the protection and welfare of all
students. General searches may be
limited to particular classrooms or the entire school. Search by a Policeman requires "probable cause" and a warrant,
except in unusual circumstances, by a magistrate. When seizure of a student by a police officer
is necessary, the schools will cooperate with the local and state law
enforcement agencies. The principal or
his designee will make available for questioning and/or arrest any student

suspension action. The parent/guardian
or student of legal age may quest a review by contacting the Superintendent of
the school. A suspension review
committee (SRC) will review the suspension action. The hearing must be held within two days of
the request for appeal. The student will
be allowed to attend school while the suspension is pending, however, the
Principal may decide to place the student in “In-School-Suspension” until the
appeal is heard and a decision is made.
The student may not participate in or attend any school activities while
the suspension is pending and awaiting a decision by the SRC. Students who are suspended may do their work
and receive credit when completed and turned in to the teacher. All assignments must be completed and turned

be called for support.
TUTORING
After school tutoring will be offered Monday
through Thursday of each week from 3:20 until 4:20. Parents will be responsible for
transportation if their student stays for tutoring. If tutoring is not offered on a specific day
in question, students will be allowed to phone home and make other arrangements
for transportation.
USE OF
TELEPHONE
The telephone in the office is not to be used
by students. Students will not be
released from any class to receive or place telephone call except for
administratively confirmed emergencies.
In-coming telephone calls for students will be taken in the office and
messages delivered to the student.

NOTIFICATION
OF RIGHTS UNDER FERPA FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
(FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years of age (“eligible students”)
certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. They are:
The right to inspect and review the student’s
education records within 45 days of the day the District receives a request for
access.
Parent or eligible students should submit to
the school principal (or appropriate school official) a written request that
identifies the record(s) they wish to inspect.
The principal will make arrangements for access and notify the parent or
eligible student of the time and place where the records may be inspected.
The right to request the amendment of the
student’s education records the parent or eligible student believes is
inaccurate or misleading or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy
rights.
Parents or eligible students may ask the
district to amend a record they believe is inaccurate or misleading or
otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights. They should write the school principal,
clearly identify the part of the record they want changed, and specify why it
is inaccurate or misleading or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy
rights.
If the district decides not to amend the record as requested by the
parent or eligible student, the district will notify the parent or eligible
student of the decision and advise them of their right to a hearing regarding
the request for amendment. Additional
information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the parent or
eligible student when notified of the right to a hearing.
The right to consent to disclosures of
personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education
records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without
consent. One exception, which permits
disclosure without consent, is disclosure to school officials with legitimate
educational interests. A school official

company with whom the district has contracted to perform a special task (such
as an attorney, auditor, medical consultant, or therapist); or a parent or
student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance
committee, or assisting another school official in performing his or her tasks.
A school official has a legitimate
educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in
order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility. Upon request, the district discloses
education records without consent to officials of another school district in
which a student seeks or intends to enroll.
(NOTE: FERPA requires a school
district to state in its annual notification that it intends to forward records
